As you now know your new school (year 6) and your new teacher (year 5), draw a map of the school as if you were looking down from an aeroplane. Year 6, you may be able to find an online map of your school.

Try to use a scale. A scale is when you say that 1cm on the map is 2m in real life. Watch these videos for some help.

 

 

 

Watch this one up until 2 minutes.

 

Once you have drawn your map to a scale, you can work out how to get from one place to another and how long the journey is e.g. from English lesson to Football pitch is 200 metres. This activity could help you get used to your new school and although everyone gets lost at a new school, it may help you.

Writing task:

Imagine you are a news reporter. You must write a newspaper report about the alien who has come to visit Earth. Why are they here? What do they think of Earth?

Topic:

Examine the different life stages of a star and explore the names and shapes of some famous constellations. Create a poster displaying the different constellations which can be used to teach others. Try to make it as creative as possible.
